My name is Mishael Downer, and I am a 2024 graduate from Central Saint Martin University where I studied on the BA in Culture, Criticism & Curation degree.
I have a social care sector background spanning over 20 plus years, enjoying roles as an Education Welfare Officer and Family Support Worker. In 2018 I decided that I wanted a career that reflected my lifestyle and so began to pursue my childhood affection for the arts.
In September 2024 I was contracted on a six-month contract as the Interim Freelance Curator at the Willesden Gallery in the Willesden Green Library.
As part of transferring the management of the gallery over from the council to the community, Brent council invested in a training programme for curators called the Brent Curates Immersive Training programme. As part of the 12 collective trainees, we deliver four exhibitions per year.
I enjoy my role as a Curator and am very passionate about developing my practice. My main objective is to encourage marginalised groups to visit and enjoy art in a space local artists given an opportunity to exhibit their work.
