Upcoming creative events in Brent.
Ros Daniels, director for London & South East, requests the pleasure of your company as we reveal a sculpture by Phil Neal, incorporating historic pulley wheels and chains recycled from the reservoir valve tower, which reflects the use of Welsh Harp by generations of Londoners.
In winter 2023-24, Canal & River Trust carried out once-in-a-generation work to drain the reservoir and carry out maintenance on the valve tower which controls the flow of water, as part of London's network of vital flood defence. Chains and pulley wheels which had reached the end of their working life have been repurposed as part of a stunning new piece of public art by sculptor Phil Neal, inspired by the 190-year history of Brent Reservoir (Welsh Harp).
This striking new sculpture, created using historic pulley wheels from the original dam, offers a powerful tribute to the reservoir's industrial past and its continuing importance in our community.
Please arrive between 10 - 10:20 am for refreshments and for a prompt 10:30 start.
The event includes:
🔹 A short historical talk about the Brent Reservoir dam and its significance
🔹 A chance to meet and hear from the artist behind the sculpture
🔹 The official unveiling of the artwork
🔹 Light refreshments and a moment to connect with fellow local history and art enthusiasts
Whether you're a history buff, art lover, or just curious, this will be a memorable and meaningful morning by the reservoir.
